Following on from the success of forming a second Saturday XI in 2010, the club is continuing with the next phase of it’s development. For the first time in its’ history the club is embarking on a Youth Development Programme.
The Club has in the past dipped its toe into this area and has had some success with four younger members progressing their game to a high standard. This year the club is looking to extend the range of its youth programme with, for the first time, having a programme of development using English and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) trained level 2 coaches and level 1 coaching assistants to arrange a structured leaning and improvement programme for boys and girls initially from the 9 to 15 years age group. The Club does intend to extend this age group in the future in the next phase of its development.
As part of this process the Club will be talking to local schools with a view to setting up partnerships to provide school children access to organised coaching.
All this is totally new to us but we are determined to make it successful. After all ‘the longest journey starts with first step’!
We are actively seeking sponsorship for our youth programme and have received assistance in the past from, the National Lottery (artificial practice pitch and net); Sports Match and Fusilier Electrical (bowling machine & coach training) and general sponsorship from KGM of Smallfield.  We are now raising funds for an artificial match pitch specifically for youth cricket and so far we have had support from Waitrose in Horley for which we are extremely grateful. So we are well on the way to providing all that is needed to start out on our ambitious youth development programme.
